Doener, A Turkish Food

Doener has been our favorite snack on the go while in Berlin. This food has overtaken the popularity of bratwurst, currywurst and other kinds of sausages.

Doener or locally called Shawarma, is a grilled meat wrapped in a pita bread with shredded lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, onions, meat mixed with different kinds of dressings. This food was first introduced in Berlin in the 1970′s by Turkish immigrants.

I don’t like the Shawarma sold here in Manila but I love Doener in Berlin for its distinct taste and affordability. Hey, the serving is really big!! I mean BIG!

thats quite a meal.yeah, shawarma here has become so Pinoyish stereotyped, except the shawarma from Lagro, which is very filling. But if you wanna taste real good mediterranean shawarma and kebabs, theres a couple of Shawarma resto along Mabini owned by Arabs. Or try Ziggurat in Makati Ave, they serve not only the typical Mediterranean, they have Egyptian, Iraqui, African, etc.

Yeah, I don't like the shawarma they got in Phil too, it's too full of Maggi Savor. That one you're eating looks delicious. It got real bread in it while some I've eaten here got Pita bread in it.

I looked like an absolute idiot in Germany because they had to explain to me what a doner is. Apparently, during my solitary walks, I realized that, because there are a lot of Turkish stores in Germany, doner is none other than shawarma. I'm not that ignorant after all haha.
